What is Pain Reprocessing Therapy?
Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) was developed by Alan Gordon, the Founder of The Pain Reprocessing Center in Los Angeles and the author of the book “The Way Out”. It is a psychological treatment protocol that retrains the brain to correctly interpret and respond to signals from the body, thus breaking the cycle of chronic pain.
Pain Reprocessing Therapy encompasses pain science education, establishing personalized evidence for the existence of neuroplastic pain, learning to reappraise symptoms through a lens of safety and focus on positive sensations, and identifying emotional threats and personality traits that may be reinforcing the chronic pain cycle. Based on your symptoms and history, I will customize a personalized treatment plan to retrain your nervous system and alleviate your neuroplastic symptoms. We will practice the techniques together in session, giving you the confidence to apply them as needed on your own. The sessions are all done virtually.
The effectiveness of Pain Reprocessing Therapy was proved in a recent randomized controlled study at the University of Colorado Boulder. Of the chronic pain patients that received PRT, 98% of them improved and 66% of them were pain free or nearly pain free after just 4 weeks. The patients were all suffering from chronic back pain. Most of them had been told they needed surgery to alleviate their symptoms. You read the full study here.
